Skukuza experiences a hot, sub-tropical climate, with temperatures ranging from 7 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius. The winter months (May to June) offer astounding wildlife viewing as the vegetation thins and animals emerge, congregating around rivers and waterholes. Skukuza is a safe town. However, there are certain precautions and restrictions when it comes to the animals, as they are wild and can be dangerous.
Unless in a designated viewing area, all visitors must remain in their vehicles. This includes not allowing body parts to protrude from the vehicle. Vehicle doors should be closed at all times. Stick to the speed limit while driving through the reserve. 50km/h on tar roads and 40km/h on gravel roads. Driving “off-road” or on roads affixed with “no entry” signs is prohibited.
The Kruger National Park is a risk area for malaria. Precautions should be taken to avoid bites, and anti-malarial medication should be taken before, during and after your trip.
